Boycotting Cruelty By Going Veg

Americans are oblivious to how much cruelty goes into that piece of cooked, dead flesh sitting in on their plate while they say grace. Like the saying goes, “Out of sight, out of mind.” That is exactly what the meat and diary industries want. If the consumers really found out what goes on in the factory farms, more people will go vegetarian. Instead they have ads where the animals are happy and singing like the cows that appear in those “Happy Cows Come From California” advertisements. We are left to assume that the cows are happy and willing to give up all of their milk to us humans, instead of her baby calf, who is probably sent to off to be tortured for his veal.

Animal cruelty is one of many reasons why many people go vegan. Competition to produce cheaper meat, eggs, and dairy products has led animal agribusiness to treat animals as objects and commodities. This has caused a worldwide trend where a lot of family farms are being sold or lost due to the competition of the new “factory farms”. Factory farms are large warehouses where animals are confined in crowded cages or stalls. It is more economically efficient to put a great number of birds into each cage, accepting lower productivity per bird but greater productivity per cage. The individual chickens gain weight in part because they are immobile and suffer because of it.

Inside these greatly populated buildings, enormous amounts of waste are accumulated. This causes high ammonia and the chickens to suffer painful burns in the skin, eyes and respiratory tracts. Also to reduce the losses from chickens pecking each other, farmers cut almost half of their beaks off. This process is very painful for the birds and they suffer for weeks and some are not able to eat and starve to death. Decomposing corpses are often found in the cages with the live birds.

According to Peter Cheeke, PhD, textbook Contemporary Issues in Animal Agriculture, 2004, virtually all of the United States birds raised for food are factory farmed. So what does that say about the quality of food in our country? If the consumers knew this would they look at the fried chicken in their plates the same way? We have the right to be informed and to do something about it. You can start with what you put on your plate.

Farm Animal Cruelty Convince Millions To Go Vegetarian

The sad and shocking truth concerning the realities of factory farming are now coming to light, and vegetarianism and veganism are no longer taboo. Thanks in part to animal rights organizations, videos that depict the violence and procedures conducted in some farms have convinced many people to drop their omnivorous diet and adopt a vegetarian or vegan one instead.

The actual slaughtering of the animal is no longer quick and painless. Because companies are trying to increase their profit, short cuts are often taken at the expense of animals. For example, rather than investing in a technology that will wipe out an entire room of chickens through the method of Controlled Atmosphere Killing, they are dunked into a vat of boiling hot water instead, which has proved to be inefficient as some chickens are still alive and forced to endure their wounded condition plus have their feathers pulled off before killed.

Electrical immobilization has proven to be ineffective at times because the first time around doesn’t always kill the animal outright. Euthanasia would be humane but impractical for the company who is trying to increase their profits. Other contraptions that are designed to make the death quick and painless have also failed.

To make matters worse, animal abuse and cruelty are prevalent in some of these factory farms, and employees are partially to blame. Undercover footage has helped to reveal the following incidences:

Chickens having their necks snapped or their heads ripped off.

  • Cows being hanged by their legs while their necks are cut and their blood allowed to drip freely.
  • Animals kicked, beaten, or stabbed.
  • Chickens being hurtled across the room.
  • Pigs having their ears and tails cut off so other pigs don’t bite them in their cramped quarters.

What’s worse is that the abuse doesn’t start during the time of slaughter. Some employees will actually participate in random bouts of violence and kick, punch, and prod these animals for no apparent good reason. Disgruntled, unhappy employees? Regardless, companies need to ensure that their workers are not engaging in senseless violence just for fun.

And that doesn’t count the cruel and unethical treatment that veal calves and ducks receive. Veal calves are forced into tiny living quarters for limited movement and deprived of food. Because pale, soft meat indicates top-of-the-line veal, these calves undergo horrific conditions. Ducks are stuffed with enormous amounts of food so their livers will become largely engrossed. This liver is called “fois gras” and is considered a delicacy, but many will agree that there is nothing delicate about the matter.

In the end, the animals are the ones to suffer while people barbecue those ribs and steaks without giving a thought to how the meat was produced.

Stem Cell Face Cream

The infomercial is laughable, and the “surgeons” and other medical personnel look scary with their Botox-ed and modified facial features. Despite the cheesiness, however, I was intrigued by this Stem Cell Cream. No, the stem cells are not from embryos (gasp!), but they are obtained from fruits!

According to my research, there are three key ingredients that make this stem cell cream so effective. They are Phyko-Ai-PF, Mitostime, and Seractin. Phyko-Ai-PF is a combination of water and hydrolized algin, a carbohydrate that helps to renew and rejuvenate skin cells. Mitostime, oftentimes referred to as the “fountain of youth”, helps to increase the respiration rate of cells. Mitostime provides the perfect environment for cellular function as it increases respiration by as much as 17%. The final key ingredient is Seractin, which helps to diminish the appearance of deep wrinkles and has aided in collagen reproduction.

Our own skin cells eventually stop functioning optimally, and this formula targets something that we already have and gives it a little boost to keep our skin looking youthful. On a side note, my friend used it for a scar that he has from a snowboarding accident, and it has visibly improved its appearance.
